CJ Miles Talks About His Recruitment
BDP recently had a chance to catch up with Class of 2005 prospect Calvin (CJ) Miles to discuss his
recruitment. Miles is a 6-6 wing forward out of Dallas, Texas & Skyline High School. He has zoomed up the Class of 2005
rankings of many recruiting services because of his recent strong play for his Team Texas AAU team. Following is the transcript
of our conversation with Miles:
BDP: Can you go over your list of schools?
Kansas, Texas, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, North Carolina, Duke, Arizona, &
Baylor
BDP: That is a pretty long list. Any idea of when you plan to trim it down & do you have
timetable in which you hope to make a final decision?
I don't really have a timetable on when I will make a decision. I am working on trimming my list
right now. I will probably trim it down right after I take the SAT's, which is June 5th.
BDP: Do you have any official visits set up with any of the schools on your list?
No. Not at this time.
BDP: Which schools on your list have offered you a scholarship?
All of them have offered, except Duke. But Duke has just recently started recruiting me.
BDP: What do you find appealing about Duke?
I like the exposure they can offer. I like Coach K & the rest of the coaching staff & just
the fact that they are Duke & one of the best programs in the country.
BDP: What type of contact have you gotten from the Duke staff?
Wojo came to my school during the open period to watch me workout & I have talked to
Coach K on the phone, but nothing real recent because of the closed period.
BDP: What are you looking for in a school?
I want to have a good relationship with the coach & the playing style is very important. I also
want to be able to play a lot when I get there.
BDP: Do you have any interest in going from high school to the NBA?
Right now I am looking at going to college. I would have to really blow up for me to go straight
to the NBA.
BDP: How are your grades?
Right now I have about an 83 or 84 overall average.
BDP: We have heard recently about your interest in playing with your AAU teammate Kevin Rogers
in college. Can you tell us your thoughts on that?
We feel real strong about that. Right now something drastic would have to happen for us not to do
it.
BDP: So, based on your feelings about playing at the same school with Rogers, & given
that Duke is currently recruiting you, but not Rogers, is it safe to say that would have a negative impact of your interest
in Duke?
It could, but my options are open. If me & Kevin want to play together we will have to look at
the schools that are recruiting both of us. If it weren't for me & Kevin wanting to play together, Duke would definitely
be at the top of my list.
BDP: Which schools on your list are recruiting both of you?
Really, all of them except Duke. But Duke has not really been recruiting me until around April. If
they see a little more of Kevin maybe they would show a little more interest in him.
BDP: Have you talked to the Duke staff about your feeling concerning playing with Rogers?
No. When I talked with them before, me & Kevin hadn't really talked a lot about playing together.
I haven't talked to Duke since the feelings we have of playing together in college became real strong.
